生物機電工程系為促進實質學術交流,系主任陳志堅教授於2023年9月6日至9月12日,回訪韓國嘉泉大學Gachon University的李來玧教授Professor Nae Yoon Lee
( Title: To promote substantial academic exchanges, the Department of Biomechanical Engineering, Professor Jyh Jian Chen, the head of the department, took a return visit to Professor Nae Yoon Lee from Gachon University in South Korea from September 6 to September 12, 2023. )
Starting from May 1, 2014, Professor Nae Yoon Lee of the Department of BioNano Technology of Gachon University and Professor Jyh Jian Chen began a cooperation plan to jointly develop the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “Joint Research under the NRF-MOST Cooperative Program-Portable sensor for agricultural genetic analyses”. Then, they established the academic and technological exchanges between Gachon University and NPUST.
在2022年11月15日至11月17日本校生物機電工程系協辦之ISMAB (International Symposium on Machinery and Mechatronics for Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering) 國際學術研討會中,李來玧教授接受邀請來到高雄參加ISMAB國際學術研討會,並在研討會中進行一場精闢的演講,講題為「Disposable Point-of-Care Diagnostic Device for Foodborne Pathogen Detection」。研討會期間由本系負責接待、導覽和學術交流等活動,在此期間促成了兩校間雙方針對未來兩系間的合作方向,並展開進一步的了解和討論。
In the ISMAB (International Symposium on Machinery and Mechatronics for Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering) international academic symposium co-organized by the Department of Biomechanical Engineering of NPUST from November 15 to November 17, 2022, Professor Nae Yoon Lee accepted the invitation to come to Kaohsiung to participate in ISMAB conference, and gave an incisive speech at the conference titled “Disposable Point-of-Care Diagnostic Device for Foodborne Pathogen Detection”. During the workshop, the department was responsible for reception, guided tours, academic exchanges and other activities. During this period, the two universities facilitated further understanding and discussion on the direction of future cooperation between the two sides.
Gachon University, South Korea, was founded in 1939. It is a private comprehensive research university in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It has been selected as an outstanding university in all fields by the Korean University Education Association. The Education Reform Organization has also evaluated it as the best university. This return visit is an invitation from Professor Nae Yoon Lee to promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges and establish a future dual degree program. Professor Jyh Jian Chen accepted the invitation with the consent of NPUST.
During this exchange event, Professor Jyh Jian Chen gave a lecture titled “From Heater to Portable DNA Analyzer” to professors and graduate students in the BioNano Research Center building. Afterwards, Prof. Chen exchanged research experiences and teaching ideas with Prof. Jongsung Kim, the dean of the BioNano Application Research Center of Gachon University, Prof. KyuSik Yun, and several other professors at the center, reflecting on their differences and discussing their education from different perspectives. They conducted more in-depth discussions on culture, times changing, etc. Both sides believed it broadened their academic horizons and gained different understandings in education, teaching and academic fields.
Professor Jyh Jian Chen deeply admires the teaching attitude of Professor Nae Yoon Lee of Gachon University. Professor Lee’s diligent research, hard work, and simple and professional academic style led a graduate student team that included local Korean students and students from Vietnam and India. Each student is hard-working, conscientious, and has rich theoretical knowledge and solid technical training. Looking at the way they perform experiments, they are cautious and confident. Therefore, the quality and quantity of research and publications of Professor Lee’s research team are highly praised domestically and internationally, which is very impressive!
In the experience of campus life at Gachon University, the “red beetle shuttle”, an environmentally friendly bus on the campus loop, impressed Professor Chen the most. The beetle bus is the cute mascot of Gachon University. It has an attractive shape and is eye-catching. Every student loves it, and it is highly convenient and usable. Gachon University built this facility because of the locations of student dormitories on beautiful hillsides. To reduce the number of students travelling between dormitories and classrooms and the hardship and inconvenience of going out to campus, the Beetle bus, an accessible means of transportation for students, was born. At least three buses every half hour circle the campus’s main teaching buildings and dormitories.
Finally, this return visit has planned, decided and structured many practical cooperation guidelines for the future between the laboratories of both sides. Soon, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed to enhance the relationship between students and teachers in our department, Gachon University in South Korea, and even more countries. The MoU provides opportunities for academic exchanges and mutual learning between universities, expands the international outlook and the concept of a global village among teachers and students, deepens and broadens academic knowledge and skills, and expands the experience in cultural exchanges with foreign countries. It can also enhance the international level of NPUST.
